Procedure for Obtaining Realtime Captioning
- Student Responsibilities:

- Register with the Disability Resource Center (DRC) by following appropriate DRC procedures.
- Student must register for classes during the priority registration period if he or she intends to utilize realtime captioning (RTC) services (and approval has been granted by the DRC).
- Provide the DRC with a copy of class schedule as soon as possible and speak with disability specialist concerning the specific classes for which RTC is requested.
- Keep disability specialist informed of any changes or problems.
- Student must decide by the end of the second week of classes if the service is needed and notify Support Services Coordinator if it should be discontinued.
- Disability Resource Center Responsibilities:

- Provide captioning services based on the order in which requests are received and the availability of RTC.
- Recruit and hire qualified Realtime Captioners after receiving eligible student request.
- Contact professors, if possible, to inform them of accommodation.
- Provide RTC with books to be used in the classroom, appropriate parking arrangements, student’s name, and schedule.
- Arrange for appropriate seating/table access to electricity within the classroom.
- Pay RTCs in accordance with signed employment agreement.
Note: Priority registration and early notification are imperative. Failure to provide adequate notice could result in extended delays of service. Pre-planning is imperative.
