Procedure to Follow when Student Receives "Insufficient Academic Progress" Letter Due to Reduced Course Load
The procedure for determining "sufficient academic progress" by the University of Georgia is established by the Office of Student Financial Aid. Students who do not meet the requirement are sent a letter denying further financial support. The procedure for assistance from the Disability Resource Center (DRC) is as follows:
- Student Responsibilities:
-
- Register with the DRC by following appropriate DRC procedures.
- Contact the DRC as soon as you receive an "Insufficient Academic Progress" letter.
- Complete the "appeal" form from Student Financial Aid and return the form to Student Financial Aid.
- Follow all other Student Financial Aid policies.
- Disability Resource Center Responsibilities:
-
- Disability specialist will review and staff documentation with other professional staff to determine if a reduced course load is a reasonable accommodation.
- If determined a reasonable accommodation, disability specialist sends a letter to Student Financial Aid, indicating the student's need for a reduced course load.
- A copy of this letter is placed in the student file.
Note: If Student Financial Aid initiates contact with the DRC, the same responsibilities (as listed above) apply to the DRC, and it is still the student's responsibility to fill out and return the appeal form to Student Financial Aid.
Note: Final determination of financial support is up to Student Financial Aid.
