Grievance Procedure

The Disability Resource Center (DRC) upholds the rights of a student to secure academic accommodations in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Further, the DRC maintains a philosophy of student self-advocacy and the right to pursue a grievance through the Equal Opportunity Office. Should a student registered with the DRC feel he/she has not been treated in a fair or professional manner with regard to accommodations; the student is encouraged to follow these procedures:

Student Responsibilities:
  1. The student should discuss his/her grievance issue(s) with the appropriate instructor of the course or appropriate department representative (i.e. housing, physical plant, library, etc.) directly, unless extenuating circumstances prohibit doing so.
  2. If discussion with the course instructor or department representative does not settle the issue(s), the student should then discuss the grievance issue(s) with their disability specialist.
  3. Student will work with his/her disability specialist in deciding and following through with an appropriate action(s).
  4. If the disability specialist is unable to assist in resolving the issue(s), the student will then be referred to the Assistant Director of the Disability Resource Center.
  5. If the Assistant Director is unable to assist in resolving the issue(s), the student will then be referred to the Director of the Disability Resource Center.
  6. If the Director of the Disability Resource Center is unable to assist in resolving the grievance issue(s), the Director will advise the student of an appropriate course of action and the appropriate contact person.
