Procedure for Moving Class to an Accessible Location
Students with limited mobility at the University of Georgia are provided the opportunity to take advantage of priority registration. This gives students the opportunity to plan their accessible routes to class and arrange for transportation services.
It is strongly recommended that students utilize priority registration so every effort can be made to ensure the appropriate accommodations are provided. Students who do not take advantage of priority registration cannot be guaranteed their classrooms will be accessible.
- Student Responsibilities:
-
- Register with the Disability Resource Center (DRC) by following appropriate DRC procedures.
- Provide documentation to verify disability and validate request for relocation of classrooms.
- Make an early appointment to be advised by academic advisor.
- Register via OASIS during the priority registration time period.
- Review schedule to determine which classes might need to be relocated in consultation with your disability specialist.
- Provide copy of course schedule to your disability specialist at least four weeks before semester begins.
- Inform your disability specialist of classes that need to be relocated.
- Immediately inform your disability specialist of any changes in your class schedule or problems with classroom accessibility.
- Disability Resource Center Responsibilities:
-
- Disability specialist will present student's need for relocation of classroom request, along with documentation, to other professional staff to determine if request is an appropriate accommodation.
- If approved, the DRC will request that the respective departments to relocate the class to an accessible location.
- If the department is unable to relocate the class, the DRC will work with the Campus Reservations office to find an accessible location.
- If relocation cannot be achieved due to size of class or other extraneous factors, then alternative solutions will be discussed.
- Disability specialist will work jointly with department heads to explore alternative accommodations.
- The DRC will notify student of new location for class or discuss alternative solutions with student.
