Assistive Technology Lab Policies and Procedures
The Assistive Technology Lab is available for use by any student registered with the Disability Resource Center (DRC) during posted lab hours.
- Student Responsibilities:
-
- Register with the Disability Resource Center (DRC) by following appropriate DRC procedures.
- Sign in upon entering the lab and request assistance from Lab Assistant in obtaining appropriate workstation. Regardless of how many workstations are open in the lab, users are permitted to use only one station.
- Place your name on a waiting list if all workstations are currently occupied. When all workstations are in use, students are restricted to a two-hour session.
- Use care when operating lab equipment and respect the integrity of the equipment provided by the DRC by:
- Leaving all control panel settings as set by the DRC.
- Neither adding or deleting programs on the computers.
- Not altering the computers in any other manner.
- Use workstations for academic pursuits, completion of work assignments, or advancement of one's computer skills. Given the limited computer resources available, coupled with the demand for their use, computer game playing is not viewed as an acceptable use of site workstations.
- Provide your own diskette or similar if you intend to save your work. Users may not store their files on lab computers. Personal files left on the computers will be deleted. Lab staff is not responsible for any data loss regardless of cause.
- Do not ask Lab Assistants for help with registration advising, research, or classroom assignments. The Lab Assistants are there to help you get set up to do your work and to help with any issues of a technical nature, such as assistance with internet access or software questions. They are not to give any other assistance of a non-technical nature.
- Do not use tobacco products or consume food or beverages in the lab.
- Do not copy computer software or other copyright protected data using lab equipment.
- Restrict your printing to a maximum of 25 pages for any file sent to the black and white printers. Limit your printing to one copy only on the color printer. Multiple copies of a final draft must be made at the student's expense at a commercial copying facility.
- Complete any printing and log off your workstation fifteen minutes prior to the posted closing time. Please leave your workstation as you found it.
-
- Adhere to the "University of Georgia Policies on Use of Computers" section 15, including the following:
- There is no University rule that prohibits you from viewing any web page anywhere. However, the University's sexual harassment policy prohibits you from displaying sexually explicit material which interferes with anyone's work or academic performance or creates an intimidating, hostile, or offensive working or academic environment.
- Make an appointment to ensure that a scanner will be available for your use, if needed. Students may not store the images on the hard disk of the computer.
- Contact the Coordinator of the Assistive Technology Lab to request training on any available assistive hardware or software. Make an appointment with the Coordinator or with the Lab staff member designated by the Coordinator for the training session requested.
- Report any problems with equipment immediately to the Lab Assistant on duty. Do not try to fix the equipment yourself.
- Disability Resource Center Responsibilities:
-
- Make the Assistive Technology Computer Lab policies available to all students.
- Operate the computer lab during the hours posted with qualified staff members.
- Monitor computer lab usage to ensure that an academic environment is maintained in the lab.
- Provide computer hardware and software intended to assist students with academic pursuits.
- Consult with faculty, staff and students regarding the use of adaptive technology.
- Update software and hardware as needed and as budgetary constraints allow.
